Bright Data alternative

Looking for a Bright Data alternative?

Bright Data is a much larger company than ScrAPI, with a much broader product line. Treating the two as equivalent would be misleading, so this page narrows to the products that actually overlap: Web Unlocker, Web Scraper API and Scraping Browser.

Bright Data wins on scale, breadth of infrastructure and compliance material. ScrAPI's case is narrower: one endpoint, credits that cost less when the page was easy, and no product selection exercise before you can send your first request.

Bright Data figures are from its official pricing and product pages, listed at the bottom of this page. Where its documentation does not settle a question for a specific product, this table says so rather than guessing.

A note on pricing figures

Every other comparison on this site includes worked cost examples with the competitor's published per-unit rates. This one does not, and here is why.

Bright Data presents its per-thousand rates through an interactive volume slider rather than as fixed text on the page. We could read the plan structure, the free tiers and the billing units reliably; we could not read the numeric rates in a way we were willing to publish and stand behind. Rather than quote a figure we could not verify, or quote one from a third-party article, there is no cost table on this page.

What can be compared without a number

The billing unit differs in a way that matters. Bright Data's Web Unlocker charges per request with unlocking bundled in, so a static page with no protection costs the same as one behind an aggressive bot defence. ScrAPI charges 1 credit for a plain HTTP fetch and 15 for a browser with a residential proxy. If a large share of your targets are ordinary pages, that difference compounds across the month. If nearly all of them are hard, the bundled model is simpler and the gap narrows or closes.

Three overlapping products, three units. Web Unlocker bills per request, Web Scraper API per successful record, Scraping Browser per gigabyte. Picking the wrong one for your workload costs more than any per-unit difference between vendors. That is a real cost of breadth, and it is worth budgeting an afternoon for.

Pay-as-you-go carries a premium. Bright Data documents that its pay-as-you-go rate is higher than its committed plans. ScrAPI's one-off $19 top-up is its highest per-credit rate too, at $0.00019 against $0.0000663 on the $199 Scale plan. Both products reward commitment; neither hides it.

For current figures, read Bright Data's pricing pages directly and ScrAPI's credit documentation alongside them.

Where Bright Data is stronger

Proxy network scale

Bright Data operates one of the largest proxy networks in the industry across residential, datacentre, ISP and mobile tiers. If your bottleneck is IP diversity in a specific market at volume, this is the axis on which a small provider cannot compete, and pretending otherwise would not help you.

Structured data products

Web Scraper API covers a large library of site templates that return parsed records rather than pages, and Bright Data also sells pre-collected datasets outright. If what you need is a maintained feed of structured records from well-known sites, that is a different purchase from a scraping endpoint, and ScrAPI does not offer it.

Compliance and procurement

Bright Data publishes ISO 27001 and GDPR compliance material, operates a KYC process for certain products, and sells enterprise agreements with account management and premium SLA options. For a buyer whose security review has to pass first, that material decides the purchase. ScrAPI does not publish equivalent certifications.

A remote browser and a deep MCP server

Scraping Browser gives you a real browser over CDP to drive with Puppeteer, Playwright or Selenium, with unlimited concurrent sessions advertised. Its MCP server exposes dozens of tools across the product line with 5,000 free requests a month. ScrAPI's MCP server exposes two tools, HTML and Markdown scraping, with optional browser commands. That is deliberate rather than incomplete, but it is smaller.

Where ScrAPI may suit a smaller team

One product decision, not four. Bright Data's overlapping products each have their own billing unit and their own pricing page. ScrAPI has one endpoint. For a small team, the time spent choosing between them is itself a cost.

You pay less when the page was easy. ScrAPI's credit model prices the work actually done: 1 credit for a plain fetch, 5 for a browser, 5 or 10 for a data centre or residential proxy, 30 for a solved captcha. Nothing is bundled into a floor price.

A predictable entry point. $19 buys 100,000 credits once, with no subscription, and unused credits roll over. That is enough for 100,000 plain fetches, 20,000 browser-rendered pages, or about 6,600 browser requests through a residential proxy.

Artefacts in the same request. A screenshot, a PDF or a WEBM recording of the browser session are parameters on the same call, at 2, 2 and 3 credits respectively. Bright Data does not document equivalent output modes on its unlocking product.

Data handling. ScrAPI keeps no scrape history. Requests are metered as aggregate counters against your API key, so target URLs and page content are not written to its database and responses are not cached. Screenshots, PDFs and video are stored under hash-derived filenames and deleted within 24 hours. Two honest caveats: a saved ecommerce monitor necessarily stores the URL you configured, and diagnostic logs can capture request details when a request fails. We did not find a published retention policy specific to scraped content on Bright Data's side, so nothing here should be read as a claim about what they retain.

Which one should you pick?

ScrAPI may be a better fit if

  • You want one endpoint and one billing unit, rather than choosing between three overlapping products before your first request.
  • Your workload is mixed, and you would rather pay 1 credit for a page that needed nothing than a flat unlocking price for every request.
  • You want a $19 one-off purchase with no subscription and credits that roll over.
  • You need screenshots, PDF or video of the browser session as parameters on the same call.

Bright Data may be a better fit if

  • You need proxy network scale, IP diversity or volume that a small provider cannot match.
  • You want maintained structured records or ready-made datasets rather than pages you parse yourself.
  • Your procurement requires published compliance material, KYC, account management or a negotiated SLA.
  • You need a real remote browser over CDP with high concurrency, or a broad set of MCP tools across a whole data platform.

Common questions

Which Bright Data product should I compare against ScrAPI?

Web Unlocker. It is the product that takes a URL and returns the unblocked page, which is what ScrAPI does. Web Scraper API is a different shape: it bills per structured record from pre-built scrapers for specific sites. Scraping Browser is a remote browser you drive over CDP with Puppeteer, Playwright or Selenium, billed by bandwidth. Comparing all of Bright Data to ScrAPI would not tell you anything useful, because most of Bright Data is not trying to be a scraping endpoint.

Does Bright Data have a free tier?

Yes, per product, and it does not require a credit card. Web Unlocker offers 5,000 requests per month, Scraping Browser includes 1 GB per month, and the Bright Data MCP server offers 5,000 free requests per month that reset monthly without rollover. That is a more generous starting position than most of this market, ScrAPI included.

Does Bright Data require a minimum monthly commitment?

Not on the self-serve tiers. Bright Data documents a pay-as-you-go option for Web Unlocker with no monthly commitment, noting that the per-thousand rate is higher on pay-as-you-go than on a committed plan, and describes its monthly plans as cancellable at any time. Enterprise terms are negotiated and not published.

Is ScrAPI cheaper than Bright Data?

We are not going to state a number we could not verify. Bright Data renders its per-thousand rates through an interactive volume slider rather than as static text, and we could not read those figures reliably from a fixed page. What can be said is structural. Bright Data prices per request or per record with unlocking bundled in, so an easy page and a hard page cost the same, while ScrAPI charges 1 credit for a plain fetch and 15 for a browser with a residential proxy. Mixed workloads with many easy pages tend to favour that second model. Check the current rate on Bright Data's pricing page before deciding.

When is Bright Data clearly the right choice?

When scale, breadth or compliance is the constraint rather than simplicity. Bright Data operates one of the largest proxy networks in the industry, offers structured scrapers across hundreds of site templates, has a mature MCP server with dozens of tools, publishes ISO 27001 and GDPR compliance material, and sells enterprise agreements with account management. ScrAPI is a small, focused product and does not compete on any of those axes.

Sources checked

Every Bright Data figure on this page comes from one of the official pages below, read on 10 September 2026. Scraping providers change pricing often, so check the source before relying on a number for a purchasing decision.

Plan prices come from ScrAPI's published pricing table and per-feature credit costs from its credit documentation. A few figures on these pages were taken from the service implementation rather than the documentation, because the two currently disagree: the 20-credit Google SERP surcharge, the 1-credit charge for supplying a callback URL, the 200-concurrent-request-per-IP limit, and the 15-minute session window are all read from the code. Where they conflict, the implementation is what you will be billed for.
